This first annual smmiut was a great way for people from many areas of expertise to exchange ideas on how to educate people about the risks associated with sedentary behavior. As a knowledge worker myself, I can attest that 20+ years of sitting at the computer have negatively impacted my health. Research shows that the damaged lumbar discs, mouse arm , dry, itchy eyes and even metabolic problems that I have experienced can be connected to sitting too much. The good news is that these problems can be avoided by participating in even small levels of physical activity on a daily basis. Thanks for spreading the good word, Gene!
